Small Mammals of the City of Whittlesea
We have produced a Small Mammals of Whittlesea booklet to help you identify some of our local wildlife. The booklet showcases our smaller mammals including eight different microbats, small marsupials including the Brush-tailed Phascogale, Antechinus, Dunnarts and Gliders as well as three native rats including the Rakali / Water Rat.
The booklet has a dedicated section on what you can do on your rural property to promote and protect small mammals on your rural property. Click on the cover below to download a copy of the booklet or you can request a hard copy by calling the Land Management and Biodiversity Team on 9217 2471.
We have started an online collection of photographs of the Birds of Whittlesea on Natureshare which is a great online resource to help you identify the local birds. Birdlife Australia has records of 165 species from the municipality and we’ve started collating our observations towards that number. The collection contains great photos of eagles, kingfishers, lyrebirds, robins, wattlebirds and many more. Anyone can contribute to the collection so start uploading your photographs today! Even if you don’t know the species you can still upload a photo and someone will identify it for you.
